Big Moon 12-13-2008

Today , the moon will be closer to Earth than it’s been in the past 15 years. The actual closest point occurs during the day in Hampton Roads, but the moon will still look bigger and brighter than usual when it rises after sunset.

The full moon will be less than 222,000 miles away. It has not been this close since 1993.

I took this one this evening. My newish Slik 340DX tripod sucks. It shakes like a junkie looking for a fix. Each time I tighten the pan head, the camera moves a few degrees left and down. Those jagged edges on the moon was the best that I could do. I might as well pony up for a Bogen.

Do me a favor, click on the pic to get a full screen view :)
